La Reserva Rotana - History
Secluded in an enchanting valley on the east side of Mallorca, a 600 acre oasis of green gardens and picturesque fields spread along a Finca called "La Rotana", forming one of the largest privately owned properties on the island. Its owners, Dr. Juan Ramon Theler and his wife, Princess Loretta zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Hohenstein, bought the property 40 years ago, and have carefully treasured this little paradise ever since.
In 1995, the couple decided to convert the 17th century manor house into an enchanting small luxury hotel, "La Reserva Rotana". Great emphasis was placed on preserving the buildings' age-old elegance: each room has been outfitted with hand-picked furniture, antiques and works of art, marvellously preserving the ancient Mallorcan ambient, while combining this unique design with the utmost comfort such as under-floor heating, air conditioning, satellite TV and minibars.Today the 32-room Private Golf & Wine Resort, which also includes privately owned luxury villas, is rated among the top ten luxury rural hotels in Spain.
La Rotana continues to be a working farm where a variety of crops, fruits, and grapes for the Finca's own wine production, La Rotana Wine, are harvested every year. This fresh produce is used in the hotel's gourmet restaurant, Sa Rotana, and delights even the most demanding palates. The farm also keeps over 300 sheep, pigs, pheasants, peacocks, horses, donkeys, chicken and rabbits.
The warming atmosphere within La Reserva Rotana means that few guests venture out until the end of their stay. Days are spent resting by the numerous swimming pools, reading in one of the fabulous salons or relaxing with an in-room massage. Others find time to play a few sets of tennis, hike around the finca or mountain-bike along the nearby trails. La Rotana's uniqueness lies in its carefully kept private golf course, which is for the exclusive use of its guests and has no green-fees or tee-times. "Rotana Greens" is a golf paradise, where both experienced players and beginners can enjoy the stress free environment and play without hassle.
